A focus on adult well-being: the need for a building a community of co-caring within a school
Today’s students face changing needs, marked by increased disconnection and rising mental health
issues, while educators grapple with numerous challenges, including complex student cases, staffing
shortages, and high turnover rates. Addressing these challenges requires recognizing that it’s not solely
about the students; the well-being of adults in the educational environment is equally vital. Beyond
‘know-how’, cultivating self-awareness, furthering reflective practices, and implementing a
community of co-caring can significantly enhance our ability to navigate these difficult situations. By
working together and acquiring the necessary insights, means and strategies, school teams can succeed
at cultivating a healthier work environment for everyone involved.
